Hey Hey Friends!

This week, I have a great craft to show you! I hope you try it out; but I want to note that this would probably be safest with older children that can handle an activity like this. When we did this, some of the younger kiddos told me that they can’t wait until they are old enough to do it. It’s so much fun!

Gather:

  • Plaster of paris
  • Water
  • Plastic crosses
  • Muffin tins
  • River rock stones
  • Large nails
  • Placemat or tarp
  • Goggle or protective eye wear

Prepare: Mix plaster of paris and water according to directions. Pour plaster into muffin tins and insert crosses so that they do not show. Allow them to dry and take them out of the muffin tins.

Teach:

  1. Give a child some goggles, a plaster rock, a stone, and a large nail.
  1. Show the child how to hold the nail on the plaster rock, hit the nail on the head with the stone and break off pieces of the plaster until they are able to remove the cross. They should also be able to see the imprint of the cross in the plaster.
  1. Share Psalm 119:11 with them. “Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against thee.”

Join in as we work to Champion Children’s Ministry this Bible Drill season!!

I love teaching Bible skills every week. When I see kids who can use their Bibles and find passages or verses quickly, I know the investment is worth it all. I want to challenge you to have regular times for Bible skill games and practice Bible Drill. I have lots of tutorial videos here and under the resource tab

We put together a notebook of our favorite games called Bible Skill Boosters to help teachers develop a treasure chest of learning games they can use each week. This resource has ideas for Bible book games, Bible verse memorization games and fun review games.  These ideas will be so helpful in Sunday School, Bible Drill, Awana and whatever children’s class you lead. Our children need to learn their Bible skills so they can feed themselves spiritually and this book will flood teachers with tons of ideas. It’s available for immediate download.

We also have the Blue Cycle of Bible Drill and we have written ideas for every verse and books of the Bible games and even Key passage games. It’s available for immediate download too.

Here’s just one example of a great idea we used from the book.  So much FUN!!

While these books have tons of ideas and plans, sometimes we also need a game or two to just fall back on if needed. Therefore, I created three different games that I use all the time for emergent time fillers. Other teachers liked them as well, so I ended up making sure these games are in every classroom. They hold up very well over time, and some of these games are useful for a little friendly competition among the kiddos.

  1. Bible Book Hop Mats are vinyl mats containing all the initials for the books of the Bible including the numbers 1-2-3.  Children take turns hopping from letter to letter as they recite the books in order.  Teammates can help and even tag one another to complete the next division of books.
  2. ABC-123 Hop Mats are vinyl mats. One has the letters of the alphabet while the other mat has numbers. Children take turns hopping from letter to letter as they spell out the book of the Bible or the verse they are memorizing.  This game is very useful for preschoolers to learn their alphabet and numbers, but I have used it for relays, matching games, and bean bag competitions as well.
  3. Mega Mat and Table Top New Testament and Old Testament Games are also made of the vinyl material. Mega mats are large and played on the ground by stepping on the mat like the hop mats while the tabletop game is made to be played on the table or multiple tables in the classroom. It comes with matching game cards for each book of the Bible.
